The hARTcore® concept
When art really becomes challenging...
The hARTcore concept is inspired by the work of the artist collective, 3TUK – 3 Totally Unknown Artists, of which I am one-third
(www.3tuk.art).
3TUK is planning an exhibition titled “The Unpefect Exhibition” (misspelling intended), set to take place in late summer 2025 at Kulturhus Bunkeren in Aarhus N.

“Strong Stuff” – The Hidden Works
The exhibition will feature a series of works that we, the artists, provocatively refer to as “strong stuff.”
These works are not immediately accessible but are concealed behind a roll-up curtain. A note beside the curtain informs visitors that a work is hidden behind it—one that some people may find emotionally charged beyond the ordinary level.

We therefore encourage each visitor to reflect on whether they might want to bring a friend or family member along for support if or when they choose to roll up the curtain.

One of our key points is that this setup actively encourages dialogue. Visitors are invited to ask a fellow attendee whether they would be willing to stand by when unveiling the “strong stuff.” This simple act transforms the work into a shared experience, sparking conversation and connection.
hARTcore – Beyond the Curtain
The hARTcore work (and concept) takes this roll-up curtain setup a step further.

hARTcore works are so potent that even a curtain does not provide sufficient protection against potential emotional turbulence.
Therefore, access to hARTcore works involves multiple steps:
Step one: The viewer must first read a text accompanying a QR code leading to a low-resolution digital version of the work.
​
Step two: The image is blurry and somewhat indistinct—just clear enough for the viewer to decide whether they have the desire, courage, and mental resilience to see the work in full resolution.
​
Step three: For certain works, there may be an IRL version, hidden somewhere within the exhibition space, waiting to be discovered by those who truly wish to confront it.
​
💡 The hARTcore concept is an invitation—not just to observe art, but to engage with it, navigate its emotional weight, and, most importantly, to experience it together.
