The Hybrid Detectives - The Fall *
...is a cozy crime novel about how a Grandfather and his Granddaughter (John & Sarah Hobbs) come together in a detective partnership to solve a murder mystery.
• "Oh, so you think there haven't been enough crime novels written already!?"
• "A Grandfather and a Granddaughter, how unrealistic can it get!?"
• "Isn't it a bit lame to capitalize on what's trendy in the IT era by including 'Hybrid/(AI)' in the title?"
• "And by the way, I should mention that the title 'The Fall' has already been used by Albert Camus in his last novel!"
The Significance of the Process – The Irrelevance of the Outcome
Well, well, I guess I got a few good knocks there.
But no, not at all. The process of devising characters, plot, and circumstances is so thrilling, engaging, and downright enjoyable in itself that everything else is of little importance.
What others think, and whether anyone else will read the cozy crime novel, is (almost) irrelevant. But they will have the chance. There's nothing secret about the project, and maybe, just maybe, one or two people might even be inspired to do something similar and think:
If he can write a crime novel, then I certainly can too!
A Couple of Grandfather John's Poems
The crime novel includes a small subplot. John, the 72-year-old retired bibliophile librarian, has to write a little with his fountain pen every day. He particularly enjoys fiddling with poems.
And tra-la: Here are two poems from the collection John is working on in the novel,
"Thoughts & Threads: From the Closet's Corners" (10 poems selected by Sarah's younger sister, Valerie).

The Bow Tie
I have a weakness for people
who know how to present themselves
and don't hide their light
under a bushel

especially for those who have something
to back it up, I mean those
who truly have a light
and aren't just pretending
Thus self-assured
the bow tie makes itself known
a little question reveals all
are you a clip-on bow tie
or
are you a self-tie bow tie?
Tarzan Swim Trunks
Tarzan swim trunks
every man's wet dream
wild beast on the outside and in the trunks
what's not to like

as the art of suggestion
gained momentum
the Tarzan trunks
became too forward

replaced by shorts
down to the knees
which more subtly
suggest one thing or another
